Peter Haines is a career 
educator. For over 35 years, he held various positions in K-12 schools as well as in higher education. Haines retired in 2021 after serving as superintendent of the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District for six years. Before that, he served as superintendent of Greenville Public Schools for four years. Haines spent time in the classroom as a middle school science teacher before stepping into administrative roles (assistant principal, principal, and asst. superintendent) and then assuming the superintendency at Greenville. He has also held administrative and faculty (undergraduate and graduate) positions at Grand Valley State University.

Haines’ leadership experience spans decades and crosses boundaries between public and private schools, K-12 and higher education. He has also served as president of the Michigan Association of School Administrators (MASA) Region 3, member of the MASA Council, the Systemic School Reform Committee (SSRC), and as co-founder of the Reading Now Network, which was awarded the MASA Champion for Children Award. Haines has also served on the boards for Spectrum Health Systems, the Greenville and West Shore Chambers of Commerce, United Way of Montcalm and the Greater Ottawa Counties (board president and campaign chair), Habitat for Humanity, Commercial Bank, and the Rotary Club (chapter president, and Paul Harris Fellow).

He holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) from Western Michigan University, a Masters in Education (M.Ed.) from Grand Valley State University, and completed Doctoral coursework in Educational Leadership at Eastern Michigan University, with a research focus in finance policy and equity.
